Jack M. Broughton received his Ph.D. from the University of Washington in 1995.  He is currently an Associate Professor of Anthropology at the University of Utah.  His main research interests lie in how prehistoric populations impacted the faunal environment, and the implications of these impacts on human behavior and modern conservation biology.  Broughton utilizes foraging theory to address his research interests.  His fieldwork is based in California and arid western North America.
